Caught the Fire
As soon as I wrote the first line of this song I knew it was a great hook line, the rest of the song I based on a rather sexy artist I was seeing at the time.
Mundane Minds
This song took ages to actually finish completely. I wrote the music about five years ago and kept playing it and playing it, then I found some old lyrics which just seemed to fit with what I already had. I recorded it first about eighteen months ago, It’s my oldest song but probably my favourite.
Mind Floating
Modern technology had a part to play in writing Mind Floating. It started whilst texting an x-girlfriend, I sent a text of one line and she sent back another line not necessarily in the right order, but eventually the verses were complete. The chorus however is all mine.
Write this down
This song is all about the lyrics and basically it’s my way of saying that If I create something then may be some one somewhere will appreciate it.
Don’t
Some songs just take you to another place and not always a good place. When I hear the words to this song it takes me to a dark and dingy pub in Bristol drinking my troubles away That’s kind of what it’s about, you know people saying goodbye whether you want them to or not.
Moving Forward
I was struggling to define what kind of message ( if any) the album was to promote when I thought I’d take a look back at the last year, I realised that I really have achieved more personally than any other year I’ve been performing, I’ve had my setbacks but I’ve rolled with the punches and moved on (forward).
The Creature
The Creature is a metaphor for depression which I’ve always envisaged as some sort of demon or devil creature, so this song is a kind of aversion therapy, a way of putting it to the back of you’re mind! Listen to the lyrics it makes sense!
Got my boots
I originally used ‘got my boots’ as a vocal exercise which just grew on me! It’s about possessions, losing them, keeping them and giving them away!
Sweet Butterfly
Unfortunately a lot of great music is forged out of heart ache and pain, ‘Sweet Butterfly’ is no exception. Sometimes breakups can be difficult so if you want immortalise you’re feelings and make sure they know how much they hurt you then write a song I did!
Safety in Numbers
One of my favourite songs to perform, If I had to summarise its meaning I would simply say Lovers, Friends and Family “Safety in Numbers.”
