I am a singer songwriter (Wed, 11 Jan 2012)
Ok If you write songs and sing them you are a singer songwriter, but when you haven’t written anything for a while, and when you do your always looking to write something special it can sometimes feellike nothing is ever going to pop out of your head ever again. I started to write a song Monday [...]

New Year (Tue, 03 Jan 2012)
I have really been hit hard by the man flu thing. Whilst working the other night and thinking to myself will I get throught the evening, having sucked a whole packet of vocal zones, or at least it seemed like that, a guy came up to me and said “you sound great best yet” ironic [...]

Man Flu NOT (Mon, 21 Nov 2011)

Singing at the Kameleon (Mon, 10 Oct 2011)
I have been working lunch time at the Kameleon in Weston-super-Mare. Amazing the people that you meet. Bikers staying in their Winnebago, businessmen grabbing a quick bit to eat, late stay holiday makers drifting of the beach, and of course the many regular locals, they all have a story to tell. Being resident has given [...]

Blogged down (Fri, 30 Sep 2011)
Ok you only have to read the last entry to know these blogs are far from regular but I am determined to do better. I have had several interseting happenings recently. Some personal and some musical. I have been doing what I like to call my residency every lunch time at the Kamilion in Weston. [...]

HOME ON THE RANGE (Wed, 18 May 2011)
Cowboys V’s Indians What a weird and wonderful night, DB’s w-s-m was covered in tee pees and cowboy paraphernalia and the whole floor had been carpeted with hey (which apparently was a pain in the ass to clean up!) everyone was drinking wagon wheel cocktails and enjoying some cheap tequila. I shared the acoustic stage [...]

OPEN MIKE CHEERS (Tue, 19 Apr 2011)
Open Mic night Thursday 14th April It was an interesting night to say the least, it started with an empty bar so for the first half hour I sang to Steve the bar man. After a few songs and some ridiculous requests from Steve a group of ladies came in so obviously I had sing [...]

The launch Party is set for my forthcoming Solo album 'Moving Forward' in August. It has been delayed due to my performance commitments. Please contact me or my website team if you would like to attend the launch. As many of you know this is my first solo album and it has truely been a journey for me writing, performing and actually moving forward. The past 12 months have been very progressive in terms of music, performances, studio work, Video editing, website and virtually everything I could ask for so it will be great to see you at 'Loves' and celebrate a memorable evening with family, friends and loyal support.

Cheers Johnny

Busy Bank Holiday

June 2010

Sat in the Raglan Arms Saturday and enjoyed the quirky sounds of Flipron who were performing in the next room.  Sunday I had a day time gig at the Claremont Vaults, now I know I might bang on a bit about how nice that part of the Weston-super-Mare sea front is but it really was very nice overlooking the seas with the new Grand pier in the back ground. Got to say it was hot and sticky but a good time all told.

Next week I am at the Weston street fest on the beach lawns I’m due to go on around 11am  it’s a half hour slot so I will be playing mainly originals lets hope for another good weekend weather wise. It is a two day event with some great music If you are able to get along as early as 11am then do come up and say hallo, obviously after the set.

May 2010

Saturday was a strange night. I’ve noticed before that when most If not all the people in the venue are stood up they find it difficult to show their appreciation, after all it’s hard to clap when your holding a pint glass in one hand. It occasionally happens that you finish the first set not sure, apart from the smiles, whether the crowd are enjoying it or not. I needn’t of worried the Royal Oak Stoke Saint Gregory certainly warmed up I didn’t get out of the placed till twelve.

I’m not trying to break any records If you can excuse the pun but are there any acoustic guitarists out there unlucky enough to break five strings in one night? I must say the audience in the Royal Oak were very understanding.

Sunday tea time I joined several other local musicians at the Imperial in Weston-super-Mare for a day night music bash. The crowd were revelling in the bank holiday spirit and I enjoyed  my 45 minutes which flew by. Doing one short spot gave me the chance to do a couple of my own songs Mundane Minds and Safety in Numbers but also a couple of up beat quirky numbers my version of Oasis Wonderwall and Suzie Quatro’s Ballroom Blitz, which does take people by surprise it went down really well with some of the audience reliving past days up and dancing.

Bank Holiday Monday and apart from writing this Blog I’m watching England beat Bangladesh in the test match.

The Album is Finished

April 2010

What a great feeling to be able to say, I’ve finished. The album that is, it’s written and recorded. It did take longer than I thought it would and I expect I’m not the only singer song writer who would be just as happy to re-record the whole lot again.  Or at least change a bit here and there. The whole process gives you so many choices that the truth is it’s never really finished, but you have to stop at some point and say, enough. I have lots more songs to write and I have learned so much from writing and recording this first album I can’t wait to get started on the next album in about a years time. I am also looking forward to making another video. Moving Forward, filmed by Leigh Jackson is a tongue in cheek go at a pop video. We had a great time filming around the sea front in Weston-super-Mare.

Some times actually performing can be the easiest part of a gig. Friday we set out for the Street Inn, Street, at the usual time only to find the motorway full of bank holiday traffic, which did cause us a bit of a panic. We were set up with just a few minutes to spare. So forewarned, Saturday we set off a bit earlier only to take a wrong turn on the way to the Stalbridge Arms, which is nothing new, we never seem to drive straight there. Any way the result of it being bank holiday has it’s positive side, two full houses and lots of punters out for a good time. Street is always great a real live music pub. The guys at Stalbridge don’t clap at the end of a song, and it seemed a bit strange at first until I worked it out, they are all stood up, and it’s not easy to clap when you have a pint in one hand. They do show their appreciation vocally as the evening goes on.

Great Song Writing Period

I seem to be going through a great song writing period at the moment. I wrote and recorded Laugh out Loud, last week and started on another as yet untitled this week. So I’ve gone from “will I have enough tracks” to “which ones do I choose.” A bit like Sir Alex Ferguson with his entire squad, fit and wanting to play. Yesterday I recorded a song that I wrote ages ago it’s called Butterfly and I wanted to keep it simple just guitar and vocals. We started about ten and we had finished by lunch time. Ken the sound engineer listened to it and got all enthusiastic seems in his head he could now hear a full orchestra and was keen to get started adding stuff but eventually we decided to wait until we could hire the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, don’t hold your breath on that one.

I am off to Bristol on Sunday for a gig at the Thalie Restaurant in Easton its part of a chain of Thalie venues I get food, drink and get paid as well. Yea I know nice one.

The London Inn London Oak

Wednesday, 20 January 2010

Just going to the London tonight it's an open mike but it gives me a chance to sing some of my own songs. Then next door to the London Oak on Friday for a gig not just any gig mind you it's my birthday as well so it should be a good night. It's exciting times at the moment I'm just getting my web site re-done and doing what every guitar vocalist song writer likes to do buy a new guitar.

Stalbridge Arms

Warm reception cold weather

Got to say how nice it was to get such a warm reception at my gigs this week-end. Driving to Street and then Stalbridge, the other side of Yeovil, and hoping it didn't snow again.

The Stalbridge Arms is a cool pub and I expect it would be a great place to chill out in the summer.

Street is one of my favourite gigs the crowd are always out for a good time and they certainly know how to party only trouble is I have to drive back to Weston-super-Mare. I'm back to The Street Inn in April and I'm hoping for good weather to go with another good night. Sunday the Seven Stars in Bristol and what a contrast the audience come to listen to the music and all my original songs went really well, between songs the audience were almost to quiet.

One bit of good news I have got my web site sponsored.

More on that later.

Live in Weston

Monday, 30 November 2009

Had a great week-end, it was a bit strange not to work on Saturday but, despite the rain I had a very relaxing couple of days.

I needed it, I damaged my ribs training last week and so it was handy not having to do too much lifting and moving. Love's had their own PA so that made life easier. I've been working hard today, yes really, getting as prepared as possible for my next visit to the studio. Writing out words and music, the way I look at it the more I can prepare the less hassle it will be on the day. Putting a band together seems a bit like doing the Rubik Cube it just starts to look OK, then you look on the other side.

Loves Weston-super-Mare

Saturday, 28 November 2009

Lunch time at Loves.

Loves -Weston-super-Mare
Not the usual gig 12am mid-day. A bluesy mellow gig at one of Weston-super-Mare's top bistros. This was a chance to play around with a few songs and try them in a more laid back style. As you can see from the pictures the sky is blue and Weston is packed with Christmas shoppers. I really enjoyed this gig and all done and dusted by 3pm.
